Ingredients
- 1 cup Green Gram
- 4 nos Green Chillies
- 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 1 cup Grated Coconut
- 1 teaspoon Oil
- 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
- 10 nos Curry Leaves
- 1 pinch Asafoetida
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- Soak Green Gram overnight or for 6 hrs.
- Cook soaked green gram in a vessel with 2 cups water salt and turmeric till cooked.
- Remove from flame and drain excess water and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a Kadai add mustard and let it splutter.
- Add green chillies asafoetida and a pinch of salt and mix.
- Add grated coconut and mix well till the coconut becomes a bit brown.
- Add cooked green gram and curry leaves and mix well and remove from flame.
- This usli can be eaten as breakfast or snack or as a side dish for rice or with roti.
Recipe Notes
Green gram can be replaced with Bengal gram, karamani/ red beans / thatta payar / brown peas / vann payar / horse gram / green peas, raw ground nut or Kabul channa. Method of preparation will be the same.
