Tomato Thokku - How to make Tomato Thokku

Tomato Thokku is a very tasty side dish that can be eaten with Idli, Dosa, Chapathi, Appams, Rotis, Plain Rice and Curd rice.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a heavy bottom vessel.
  2. Add mustard seeds and splutter.
  3. Add fenugreek seeds and curry leaves and saute.
  4. Add tomato puree, tamarind extract, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, salt, jaggery.
  5. Mix it well and bring to a boil and reduce the flame.
  6. Keep stirring in between and continue cooking till oil oozes out and tomatoes are fully thick.
  7. It takes about 35-40 minutes to fully cook and for the tomatoes to become completely thick in consistency.
  8. Remove from flame and cool.
  9. Transfer to an air tight container and store in a refrigerator.

Recipe Notes

Tomato Thokku can be served with Idli, Dosa, Chapathi, Appams, Rotis, Plain Rice and Curd rice.
