Green Gram Usli/Sundal
A tasty and nutritious side dish that can be eaten as breakfast or with rice, puttu or roti.
  1. Soak Green Gram overnight or for 6 hrs.
  2. Cook soaked green gram in a vessel with 2 cups water salt and turmeric till cooked.
  3. Remove from flame and drain excess water and keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in a Kadai add mustard and let it splutter.
  5. Add green chillies asafoetida and a pinch of salt and mix.
  6. Add grated coconut and mix well till the coconut becomes a bit brown.
  7. Add cooked green gram and curry leaves and mix well and remove from flame.
  8. This usli can be eaten as breakfast or snack or as a side dish for rice or with roti.
Recipe Notes

Green gram can be replaced with Bengal gram, karamani/ red beans / thatta payar / brown peas / vann payar / horse gram / green peas, raw ground nut or Kabul channa. Method of preparation will be the same.
